Clearing out my newsletters inbox

There are many people who's email inbox is in the triple digits. I'm not judging, as I completely understand how you can end up there.

On the whole I'm pretty on top of my inbox, even with mine now split into multiple labels (in large part due to having separate email address [technically aliases] in Fastmail). However, there was one label that had made its way to breaching into the triple digits, and that was for inbound newsletter emails. Not, the advertising ones, but the Substack's and the "Ghost's" etc.

Part of the reason is because I think to myself 'I'll read it later', but later never comes and soon enough three months have gone by and I haven't read a single issue. There are a couple of exceptions which I do read within a day or two of receiving. This is where email snoozing can be helpful.

With the others I have deleted en masse and will likely unsubscribe one by one as new emails come in.

I do like email newsletters, heck, my other blog now supports it (and in the future I might upgrade to do so here as well). But some just cram too much into a single issue, and/or are too frequent. My favourite is Hit Points by Nathan Brown which is both frequent at around once a week (for paid subscribers) and the sweet spot in length of not too short or too long. Although, as I do pay for it, I do have an added incentive to read, but it's always worth it.

Once I have unsubscribed from a few of the newsletters I'll stick to what remains for a bit before considering others. Of course, RSS helps as well, although I'm more rigorous with doing "read all" every few days.
