If you don't like a film
Today I went to see The Naked Gun. This post isn't a review of that film. In short, regardless of if you have seen the original films, if you laugh at Family Guy then you'll laugh at this. They're not the same, but the humour is similar.
What I want to talk about instead is what I observed whilst watching it. I had a pretty good idea what to expect in terms of the type of film it would be, as previously mentioned comedy that works in a somewhat similar way to Family Guy. Plus, I had seen the main trailer so I know it's the dumb but clever set up style.
However, there was a guy the other side of the aisle from me who clearly had no idea what his partner had dragged him along to. Early on he sounded annoyed but as the film went on he was increasingly agitated somewhat loudly saying it "wasn't funny", to which his partner said that she thought it was.
He made other, but this time quieter, comments expressing his view on the film and what he thought of the quality of it. Usually I'm not afraid to tell someone to shut up during a film if they are consistently being too loud. This guy fell just under my threshold. But, the other thing was he sounded increasingly upset, thus creating a sense of Schadenfreude for me.
The thing is, if you are having such a bad time, just walk out. You don't have to stay and watch the whole thing. You aren't welded to the seat. Plus, this is not a long film. Sit near the foyer and have a coffee or something. If you were watching at home you would just stop watching.
