RSS is still your friend
Alongside not blogging as much as I would like, I've also been neglecting my RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. I've got my Inoreader account set up pretty well so that I can easily get an overview of videogame and tech websites, in addition to various blogs that I follow.
When I got back into blogging late 2024 I initially just favourited a bunch in my web browser, and whilst I do like seeing the different ways people have laid out their blogs, it's not the most efficient way of keeping up with them.
I did use to use RSS a lot in the late 2000s/early 2010s when it was kind of built into Firefox, but then moved away from this due to a combination of moving to Chrome as well as getting website updates via social media, particularly Twitter (RIP).
After I had curated a selection of blogs I noticed a few were (rightly) going out of their way to highlight the benefits of RSS. Every blog service I've used in the past year and a bit have made it very easy to have your posts accessible via RSS. So, it made sense to access not only the blogs I wanted to follow, but also other news sites via RSS.
It has made it easier to get back into reading other peoples blogs again, as I refreshed my feed, marked anything older than two weeks as "read" so that I can start fresh for 2026.
You might very well be reading this very post via RSS, or via email. Both this blog and my Pika blog support email newsletters (the former as a weekly digest the latter per post). It's great that both forms are available so that readers can engage in a way that works for them.
