Tech I like - EarFun Air Pro 4

This is the first of what will be an irregular series. Not so much reviews, rather just highlighting bits of tech that I like and enjoy using.

For the first entry and what actually contributed to me coming up with this series is the EarFun Air Pro 4. I had heard about EarFun as a company in various random tech YouTube videos, specifically those on best budget audio. At first I dismissed the brand as another brand just being hyped for views, even if they didn't appear to be doing any sponsorships.

I had been a long time user of Soundcore earbuds and headphones, but had been disappointed in their latest Liberty 4 Pro buds and Space One Pro over ear. With both the sound and noise cancellation just wasn't quite there and the latter I had to get a refund after the two previous headphones had different defects.

The Liberty 4NC were excellent, especially for the price, and my partner continues to use them. The Space One are also great for what they are. The sound quality is nothing special - but they aren't horrible either - but the noise cancelling is remarkably good, especially in an office environment which is where I use them.

Anyway, after having enough of struggling to get on with the Liberty 4 Pro I was on the hunt for affordable daily earbuds. I have the Sennheiser Momentum 4 True Wireless, but I don't consider these daily.

The name that kept coming up in my YouTube views were the EarFun Air Pro 4 and on paper also matched everything I was looking for. Not only did they have LDAC support, but they also had all the different AptX codecs as well. Furthermore, the comments for the videos also spoke highly of them.

At this point they happened to be discounted on both Amazon and their own website so I gave it a go.

Yes, the reviews were right! For under £100 (quite a bit actually) they are phenomenal! Can you get better earbuds? Certainly, but you will be happier with the EarFun. I mentioned the Sennheiser Momentum 4 TWS, these do sound better and have slightly better noise cancelling, but these were basically double the price when discounted (which is also when I got them). Plus, the Sennheiser aren't as comfortable due to their size, even though their aren't the stem style. I'm very happy with the Sennheiser, but I much prefer using them at home or for long travelling.

For daily use and short trips though, the EarFun's are perfect. I always keep them in my bag ready to go. What's more, the options in the app are actually useful. I switch to "vocal enhancement" for podcasts which as is suggested ups the vocals and then switch to default for music as the sound is nice and balanced. Then with the noise cancelling, the wind mode actually does what it says and does a really good job of cancelling it out. The strong and balanced modes also do what they say, with the former being when I want to drown as much as possible, such as on a train, and the balanced if I'm wearing them at home but don't want the NC off.

I've had them for a couple of months now, but I still enjoy using them. They are comfortable and do exactly what I want from an all rounder pair of earbuds. I've tried quite a few now and also still have the Pixel Buds Pro I got with my phone. These are also fine but nothing special. The EarFun's though are special despite price - and possibly looks - suggesting otherwise.

That's it for the first entry. I've got a couple ideas for what I'll mention next time, but you'll have to wait and see.
