The joys of setting up a new laptop

Yesterday my new laptop arrived. I'm still setting everything up as there is so much involved with any new computer considered how central to our modern lives they have become.

On the whole it's been typical Windows stuff, downloading software, and signing back in to all sorts of different services. Even with a password manager it still takes a while. I've still got a few more to go, but I've done most of the big ones now.

However, amongst all of this has been Windows 11. It hasn't been bombarding me with ads for Copilot or saying I should even use it. But, Windows 11 itself is more convoluted than 10 was. Windows 10 might not have as many features as 11 - there are some useful tweaks that have been added over the past few years - but parts of the OS for 11 just feel like they get in the way, especially when you are trying to set everything up to the way you like it.

At times if even feels like its gaslighting me in relation to things I've installed. Sometimes saying I haven't installed when I have and other variations of.

Then of course we have the standard preinstalled software that comes with almost any new laptop. To be fair, Lenovo have kept the bloat down, although the worst offender is the inclusion of McAfee 🤮. I uninstalled all versions that they dared include! Lenovo has got some of its own software to assist with the running of the laptop. So far it doesn't seem too egregious and crucially isn't using up much resources at all. So I'll leave it be for now.

Still haven't got the chance to really put it through its paces yet, will be another day or so until I can. But, I am writing this very post on it, so I'm on my way.

*Yes I know this is a similar title to a previous post. Hey, maybe it could be a theme?
